   11/02/2023 記憶のなかのカレー/ Curry in my memory at Hamacho Liberal Arts

岩間朝子さんは食べることを軸に異なる社会で何を滋養としているかを探っている。今回は横浜トリエンナーレ(2020)で発表した映像作品『貝塚』を上映、その中に登場するカレーとセイロンティーを実際に味わう。カレースパイスは作家が記憶をたぐり寄せ調べるうちに出会った特別な配合。映像には現地で60年代の森林入植開発と移民労働者、その後の民族紛争を研究した父親の遺品、作家が幼少のころ聞いた話、父親の病など、今は訪れることのできない風景が立ち現れる。このような体験を通して私たちが日々口にするものがもたらす世界について語り合う場を作り出したい。(キュレーション:永井佳子

Hands Correspondence
Iris Lacoudre Camille Sineau

Hands Correspondence, a video project in collaboration with Iris Lacoudre and Camille Sineau in the context of the fifth Istanbul Design Biennial. Empathy Revisited: Designs for more than one.

Kitchen tools offer a support structure that generates social, environmental and spatial situations, due to the gestures they involve and relations they create. Here, the question of the tool is reduced to its most archaic form, the hand, and by extension the body. In that sense, the proposal is not to invent a new tool, but rather to focus on the tactility of food making and sharing, in its most simple, intimate and domestic form.

The conversation between Iwama, Lacoudre and Sineau unfolded in their separate kitchens, in front of screens, in three different cities. The idea had been to prepare a shared meal, around a large “sofra”, as a way to celebrate the hand as a tool. But suddenly, they were cut off from one another, prohibited from moving, touching or sharing. What should have been a public gathering and performance moved to the intimate sphere of their respective apartments. The very absence of that dinner revealed that everyday cooking gestures are shared across borders, beyond the confines of our kitchens.

Exhibition presented at Art in the Open, a public art festival in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada. Presented in collaboration with Verticale— centre d’artistes (Laval, QC) as part of the 2019-20 programming.

Exhibiting artists: Lea Cetera, Michael Eddy, Cliff Eyland, Michael Fernandes & Craig Leonard, Mina Hedayat, Asako Iwama, Sean Lynch

Credos is an ongoing exploration into the spiritual searching that emerges through artistic practices. It began as a series of tabletop presentations of art works and discussions in church bazaars in Laval, Quebec. The invited participants are artists and writers whose work has engaged with belief in various ways, many of whom have dealt with their own personal experiences of organized religions, without staging a rejection or a celebration. Rather, there is a translation process involved. This edition is likewise presented on tables in the plaza next to the Confederation Centre for the Arts in Charlottetown.

Things Entangling
A collaboration between MOT and KADIST
Tue 9 June – Sun 27 September, 2020

The Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo and KADIST present the exhibition Things Entangling, the culmination of a major, long-term curatorial collaboration. Trees, fossils, books, artifacts—these are some of our companions as we live in and make sense of a world in which realities and histories collide and reverberate continuously. This exhibition features artworks by twelve artists/groups that trace and animate the trajectories, nexuses, and mutations of things that resonate with a specific time and place. These things might be material objects or living subjects, but they are always also mediators of meaning, ideology, and memory. When these artists’ practices invoke anthropology, archaeology, or historiography to seek rootedness, they aim less to excavate or clarify the past than to open up a new politics of interpretation for building the present. Haunted by different time spans and territories, positions and subjectivities, the artists reveal unexpected intersections, elusive networks, and fleeting affinities between things. Through their work they aspire to open up the closed circles, exclusive territories, and static systems that are around and also within us.
